About Us

Legacy Home Care is a licensed and bonded concierge home-placement agency. Registered nurses and cofounders Lori Costello and Christopher Garrity have over fifty years of combined experience in the healthcare arena, most recently as care managers at Lori’s firm, Peacewell Care Consulting.

So much is broken in the medical system these days. But Chris and Lori were convinced they could find a better way to deliver quality home care support for older adults and their families while also attracting the best and the brightest nurses and caregivers to serve their clients.

Our goal at Legacy Home Care is to make it easy to hire quality home care support that meets clients’ unique needs and preferences. Creating meaningful and gratifying relationships is at the heart of our work. Let us show you how we put this into practice every day. Give us a call at 631-880-6321.

What makes us different

Legacy Home Care is founded on the belief that quality home care is possible—even in the face of a caregiver shortage—if the structure is changed to create more-direct relationships.

In the standard model, families pay top dollar for caregivers they really have no authority over. The home care agency is the boss and often has very little insight into the daily needs and interactions on the home front. Hefty fees are added to cover overhead, insurance, and administrative costs. Caregivers, as a result, receive minimum wage and frequently quit to go to better-paying jobs. Families are left feeling lucky to have anyone at all. As clients, they often lack the ability to ask for the quality they deserve.

A good caregiver—one who is kind, emotionally invested, and supported to develop professionally—can make the difference between a great day or a terrible day for the person they care for. Put simply, happy and satisfied caregivers give better care. Unfortunately, caregivers have long been undervalued and not given the respect they deserve for the skilled and essential work they perform.

What struck Chris and Lori about the registry model is that it puts the family and caregiver in a much better relationship to each other. The caregiver could receive better pay, as well as respect for their skills, through a direct employment model. The family could have a better choice of caregivers and more control over scheduling, payment, and the tasks to be performed without having to pay more money overall.

Lori and Chris use their many years of experience to screen for only the best applicants. Their state-of-the-art software is designed to make astute caregiver–family pairings. And their top-notch staff and payroll software ensure that families remain in compliance with New York employment law.
